Colour Mixing Masterpiece

by Lina on May 23, 2012

Free expression painting at it’s finest inspired by a canvas and paint kit from the dollar store!  My favourite place to get art ideas! We included these little kits in a loot bag we gave V’s little friend after a birthday party play date recently. Included in the kit were 3 small canvases along with primary acrylic paints and a brush. The limited colour palette make this the perfect opportunity to discuss and practice colour mixing.

V got to work pretty much once the play date was over.  Watching her inquisitiveness over how much of each colour to mix to reach her perfect shade of green was a delight.

When asked what she would name her painting, without hesitation she declared:  Field of Green. Perfect.

Warning to parents: As you can see from her smurf hands these paints are not kid friendly. I called to warn our little friend’s mom that evening but it was too late – her little hands were covered in blue as well! Thankfully it washed out by the next day! Hopefully no major damage was done in the making of this masterpiece! Next time we’ll have to try homemade non-toxic finger paints.
